汉译英的技巧(2)
二、词的搭配
汉英语言各有自己的固定词组和习惯搭配。一般来说，英语同一个动词可以跟许多名词搭配而不改变其意思，而汉语一个动词，则常常所搭配的名词不同而选用不同的英语搭配。所以，翻译时必须根据具体情况，合理搭配词语。
例1：“开”
开灯 to switch on the light
开车 to drive a car
开机器 to start a machine
开工 to go into operation
开价 to quote a price
开奖 to draw lottery in public and announce winner
开胃 to stimulate the appetite
开小差 to be absent-minded
开后门 to give sb. special advantage / privilege
开戒 to break an abstinence (from smoking, drinking, etc.)
例2：“喝”
他喝墨水虽不多，说话倒也在理。Although he didn't receive much education, his words was reasonable.
等揭不开锅，大人孩子喝西北风去！
When there was nothing to eat, the family would have to live on air.
喝醉酒的人从来都是不安静的。
The drunken are always unrestful.
